Construction

As of May 2007, the west wing of the Contemporary Resort is no longer, as it has been torn down in order to make room for a new building that will house rooms for the Disney Vacation Club. Apparently this building will be connected to the main tower via a bridge to the third floor of the main tower.

Trivia

The rooms of the main tower for the Contemporary Resort were originally designed so that they could each be removed from the hotel as a module. This is true also of the rooms at the Polynesian Resort. New rooms could then be inserted into the empty spaces to upgrade the rooms from time to time, only requiring power and plumbing to be hooked up. Unfortunately, shortly after the resort had been built it settled, causing all of the rooms to become permanently locked into place.

However, because of this feature, the rooms at the Contemporary and Polynesian Resorts also happen to be some of the quietest rooms on the property, as they have double the amount of drywall between rooms.
