Wilderness Lodge

This resort is located just south of the Contemporary Resort, and can be seen if you are looking for it from the Monorail. The green roofs that top the log cabin construction of the resort hide it quite well otherwise.

Dining

Whispering Canyon Cafe

This is a rustic cafe which serves the kinds of things you would probably find if you were on a wagon train or something. More importantly, this is where you go if you want to dine with some fun for the kids available.

At the entrance to the cafe is a waiting area where they have a table setup with a bunch of linkin-logs for the kids to play with.

Once you are seated, they regularly have events for the kids where they get to race around the entire restaurant on hobby horses. The wait staff is rude on purpose, which is wonderful if you are expecting it.

Trivia

  • If you are on the water, and you look at the lodge you can see that the windows of the lodge form the face of a bear. This is particularly visible at night when the chandaliers are lit.

Experiences

24 February 2007

At the Whispering Canyon Cafe, our waitress was particularly rude, which was a lot of fun. When she came to serve the drinks, she just threw the paper napkins for our drinks down across the table, no real order or anything to it. When I ran out of iced tea VERY quickly, she took one look at it, then walked across the room and got what had to be about a 40oz mason jar and filled THAT up with iced tea instead of the tiny little mason jar that I had. She then plonked that one down in front of me and told me that she wouldn't have to worry about refilling that one now.

I proved her wrong. When I drink in the beginning of the day at Disney, I drink as much as I possibly can in order to not get dehydrated. I finished that thing off, then asked for another one... she just sort of gaped at me. Then I asked for it in a to-go cup... and also asked for a doggy bag for the four remaining slices of lemon sitting on a plate in front of me. She just looked at me and laughed... I think she finally figured out that there was no topping me on rediculousness, and that if she stopped I would not be offended, because I was just playing along in the first place.
